||
| One of the most popular of the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving programs (COPPS), the Citizens Police Academy is a 10-week course that meets on Tuesday nights from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. The academy is held twice a year, with spring and fall sessions, and is free of charge. Maximum class size is 20 students, and students must be at least 21 years of age to enroll. Classes and practical exercises are conducted by members of the Mt. Juliet Police Department, Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, and representatives of other state law enforcement agencies. Subjects range from self-defense tactics to evidence collection. An 8-hour ride along shift with a police officer is available for students who meet the attendance requirements. A graduation ceremony is held at the end of the session, complete with certificates and, of course, donuts! **Note: Information and application packets for the Citizens Police Academy and the Citizens Handgun Safety Course may be obtained at Police Dispatch at City Hall. Applications may be mailed back to: Mt. Juliet Police Department, P.O. Box 322, Mt. Juliet, TN 37121 or dropped off at Police Dispatch. Call Corporal Jason Brockman at 754-2550, ext. 260 for more information about any of the COPPS programs.
